Balding is an unfortunate side effect of growing older. As people begin to age, their hair falls out. Because of the advanced aging, their bodies are not equipped with the right substances to be able to replace the hair that is missing. The result is that ever-so-familiar glow atop a person’s head. While balding is mainly a trait passed on through a family, it is possible that men and in some cases women suffer from balding because they do not know how to treat their hair properly when they have it.

Here are a few tips that may help you prevent hair loss in the future and keep your hair as full as possible. The first thing you have to do is make sure that you treat your hair well. Ponytails are a common downfall to female hair as the strands get caught in the rubber bands. This pulls the hair out prematurely and eventually results in hair loss. Corn rows will do the same thing. Try to let your hair lay in its natural state as much as possible to prevent it from getting caught up and pulled out. Plastic head bands may even prove troublesome if they aren’t made properly. So just do your best to keep everything natural. A problem that many people have is that they assume washing their hair daily will keep it healthy. That is actually the complete opposite of the truth. Your hair needs certain oils that your body produces to make sure it stays protected. It is your scalp’s built-in security system. As you wash your hair, you not only eliminate the dirt, but you also eliminate those vital oils from the strands.

Try to wash your hair every other day, and brush it for a few minutes before showering to evenly disperse the oils. Tangles can also be a component in hair loss. Rather than trying to pull tangled or matted hair apart, start at the end of a small chunk of hair and work your way up to the top. The more stress you put on your hair, the more you will lose. Although it may take a few extra minutes of your time, working with the hair rather than against it will keep it fuller for longer. You may want to consider using a detangling product if you have particularly frizzy hair as manual labor may not do the trick. Also avoid balling your hair up in the shower as you wash it. Let it lay as flat as possible. If you have hair that seems naturally dry or subject to falling out, you can opt for a hair mask. This is basically a chemical solution of some sort that you allow your hair to marinate in. Most hair masks can be made from common household items. A plain egg, for instance, can suffice as its own mask. Simply pour a beaten egg over your head, work it into the hair and allow it to sit for as long as you feel necessary (probably ten minutes). Once you’re done, rinse it out with cold water and mild shampoo. You should have rejuvenated strands after that.
