I have the same problem! I have annoyingly wavy/poofy/frizzy natural hair!
Although I DO use a straightener (and recommend it!), on days I can't use it or I have no time to use it, I have to do something else for my hair.
When I get out of the shower, I apply Smoothing Milk from Garnier (apply a lot of if you have thick hair) for shininess. Then I apply Paul Mitchell's heat protectant spray over my hair to protect it from any heat I apply to it. (add any other hair products you like to use on your wet hair at this time too)
After that's all done, I find a wide-tooth comb (so it doesn't damage my hair) and I use a blow dryer at the same time to straighten. Brush thoroughly for a knot-free head. Take a 1" or 1 1/2" piece of hair and brush through it. As you're brushing through the hair, take the blow dryer, press it right against the comb, and blow dry it, following the comb down. Repeat this several times. It doesn't have to be completely dry for that ONE piece of hair, but for best results, you should let it get as dry as you can. After you're done, add shiny serums to your hair to give it a shiny look, but that's optional of course.
If your hair is like mine, and is super thick; I always end up with partially-straightened hair and it isn't flattering. I usually put mousse in it to flatten it down and a little gel for the minor flyaway hairs I may still have. The Smoothing Milk I talked about in the beginning works too, and it smells really nice. Other alternatives could just be tying it into a half ponytail or just a ponytail and styling your bangs nicely [if you have bangs]
Here's a link to the Smoothing Milk by Garnier I was talking about: http://pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/162663…
I know a few people "claims" it doesn't work, but to me; if you combined it with a few other products like the ones I mentioned above, it works well, and it smells amazing.
Good luck with the hair! Hope you were able to read through all that. Email me if you have any questions(:

heey !
theere really is no way to straighten your hair without heat but there are ways to control curls and frizz .
use shampoo & conditioner that is designed for curly hair !
when you get out of the shower and your hairs still wet use a leave in conditioner . i recomend the garnier fructis sleek & shine leave in conditioner . it works really well and makes your hair superr dupperr softt (=
thenn brush your hair with a WIDE TOOTH COMB ! nott a brush if you brush your hair when its wet it stretches out your hair and damages it . anyway its not very good to use a brush on curly haairr . stick to wide tooth combs .
then use a frizz control productt . & let it dry . this should eliminate frizz . also you could use a deep conditioner less then once a week . & shampoo less often .
USING HEAT :
if you are going to use heat you can either blow dry it straight or straighten it with a flat iron . before using heat on your hair use a heat protection spray or gel . and if are using a flat iron : make sure your flat iron is a good one . this will be better for your hair .
